Which detergents do I really need? And how much?

Even with the pre-wash, you can save time and money. This consumes a lot of water and energy and is usually superfluous. In any modern washing machine, the textiles will be clean even without this wash. For very dirty laundry, however, it can be useful.

Alternatively, if available, press the Stain or Intensive button. This lengthens the wash a little and also ensures a perfect result.

Which detergents do I really need?

There are detergents for colorful, black and white linen, for wool, silk or down. There are also stain remover, descaler, fabric softener and a liquid detergent. Most of it can be left on the shelves.
For dark or colored laundry, color detergent, for the rest simple washing powder. Incidentally, the best thing for the environment is powdery organic means. Liquid detergents have a low washing performance and load the sewage treatment plants more.

From an environmental perspective, the softener is not recommended. The water softeners contained in the normal detergents are enough for portable, soft laundry. The textiles are thus merely perfumed with fabric softener.
And if we are already on softening: You do not have to worry about limescale damage to the machine. Additional descaler is no longer necessary thanks to modern washing powder.

And how much detergent?

Detergents give most people a feeling of being in the drawer. On the correct dosage is rarely paid attention. For some, the rule is: Much helps a lot. It is not so.

Overdose does not bring a better result, but higher costs and greater environmental impact. As a side effect, you can endanger your own health.

According to Commercial laundry, too much washing powder leaves residues in the compartment, which can mold. At the next wash, the mold spores are then distributed over the clothing. Every two months you should, therefore, clean the drawer.

Modern washing machines even detect if too much detergent is used and balance it with more water.
This, in turn, results in more rinses and higher energy costs. Those who pay attention to the dosage recommendations of the manufacturers, therefore, benefit in many ways. Many will be amazed at how small the powder pile looks after these recommendations by Commercial laundry in the subject.

For most washes, the data for slightly soiled laundry is sufficient. For white laundry, it may also be the information for medium soiling.

What else should I pay attention to?

Especially colored linen and delicate textiles should be turned on the left to preserve fiber and colors.
Zippers are often placed openly in the drum. This can cause the sharp edges to tear holes in other garments or damage the rubber on the hatch. Therefore, the closures should be closed before washing.
