The best care tips for proper washing:

Proper textiles care is a topic full of myths and misunderstandings. Do I have to turn jeans on left? Can the cashmere sweater into the washing machine? And does powder wash better than liquid detergents? A commercial laundry expert has delivered the answers.

Liquid detergent or powder?

That's not easy to say, both have their strengths. Powders as heavy-duty detergents always contain bleaches that help remove colored stains. At the same time, they kill off bacteria. The powder is suitable for underwear, tea towels, baby clothes, and white bedding - so everything that is bright and must be hygienically clean. Liquid detergent is more suitable for coloreds and grease stains thanks to the surfactants contained therein.

Do I need special detergents, eg. for black?

In principle, these special products do not do much more than traditional liquid detergents. Using black detergent can be useful if you really have a lot of black clothes. Compared to powdered detergents, they prevent gray streaks from forming on the fibers.

Which temperature is the right one?

Normally the 30 or 40-degree program is enough. This applies to all textiles unless you have to wash the dirty jerseys of a football team. Once a month, each machine needs 60-degree laundry to kill accumulated bacteria, which is best used for underwear and bedsheets along with powdered heavy-duty detergents.

How useful are short wash programs?

Not at all - Many believe short washes use less energy, but the reverse is true. In addition, clothes are often not properly clean. The enzymes in modern detergents need long washing times to be fully effective. Basically, it is recommended for cooking / colored laundry, the washing machine always runs in energy-saving mode.

How useful are fabric conditioners?

Fabric softeners are still a hot topic. Of course, the laundry feels fluffier and the fabric softener prevents the electrostatic charging of synthetics. Advertise with the manufacturers.
That comes from the surfactants that lie down on the fibers. However, this is also an extra layer of chemistry, which in turn comes into contact with the skin.

Everyone should decide for themselves if they want it. And everyone should ask themselves whether the tonnes of fabric softener consumed annually around the world is really necessary from an ecological point of view.
